Skulduggery Pleasant – Dark Days

A damn sight better than books 2 and 3, if you ask me. “Dark Days” takes the Skulduggery Pleasant saga into darker territory. I might first say that I reasonably predicted the revelation at the end of the book (I’m getting good at that, even for movies and TV programmes!), yet even though I wasn’t surprised, it was satisfying.

In this book, Valkyrie Cain goes off to save Skulduggery from the world of the Faceless Ones. She’s successful (of course). There is yet another plot to end the world, and Guild (the Grand Mage) gets his just desserts in the end (I can’t stand him!). There aren’t any new compelling characters, but there are two very memorable scenes:

1. the scene with the zombies at the Midnight Hotel
2. the scene where Valkyrie Cain gets thrown into a floorful of vampires

This one makes the previous two books worth reading. ”Dark Days” was a great read, and makes me want to read “Mortal Coil” immediately!
