But this time, it’s not a new / pending case. According to Malaysiakini, the KL High Court recently postponed the delivery of judgment in the defamation suit filed by PAS information chief, Mahfuz Omar, against Malay daily Utusan Malaysia.
The suit was filed in Dec 2001 over an article published in Utusan on March of that year, entitled `Demonstrasi – Mahfuz istihar bersama Keadilan‘ (Demonstration – Mahfuz declares to be with Keadilan).

Judicial Commissioner, Mohd Yazid Mustafa, was set to give his decision in the seven-year-old case today, but reserved it to hear further submissions by counsel for Mahfuz on the appropriate quantum for general damages. Submission for quantum was necessary as Mahfuz had not stated the exact amount sought in his statement of claim.
I think it’s interesting that defence counsel suggested RM10 for general damages. Utusan’s lawyers must be making tons of money, I would think. What a coup!
