It has been reported that the Human Resources Ministry will be looking into formulating guidelines for employers to ensure they contribute towards the Social Security Organisation (Socso) and Employees Provident Fund (EPF). However, this new development appears to be applicable only to students and civil servants who work on a part-time basis.

Minister Datuk Dr S. Subramaniam said a unit had been set up under the Human Resources Ministry to formulate the guidelines and address other issues on the matter. He was reported to have said that the ministry would study the matter thoroughly before coming up with clear guidelines, as there are many forms of part-time work.
This development appears to be part of the government’s bid to make part-time work attractive to university students and civil servants.
I wonder how much red-tape will be involved…
