Human Resources Minister Datuk Dr S. Subramaniam Wednesday said his ministry was always striving to reduce unemployment to ensure that the Opposition’s claim that 800,000 people will be out work next year do not materialise.
A very good promise, even if I do say so myself. Datuk Subra was reported to have said, “This may be their hope but we will not let that happen,”
Excellent news!
Because, it has been said that come September, thousands of workers will end up being unemployed because of the (not-so-new) new self-service petrol kiosk system. Undoubtedly, in the Klang Valley, we’ve been using migrant workers to help us with pumping in our petrol, but not so in the rural areas, apparently.
Anyway, continuing on the upbeat note, Datuk Subra also denied that Malaysia is facing an employment crisis, in response to the Opposition’s claim that 800,000 Malaysians would be out of job due to factories closing their operations. He was reported to have said,
We have their records. If there are signs of the companies wanting to close their operations, we will take immediate action to protect the interest of the workers, like finding new jobs for them,
Good!
Let’s hope this promise, together with the new occupational safety laws on making new professionals liable and the recent look-into-the-Wages-Councils endeavor yield something soon.
